What to see

The building was designed by the Swiss architects Christ & Gantenbein and is centred on a naturally lit atrium 64 m long, 15 m high and 13 m wide. In it stands the chocolate fountain: exactly 9.3 m high, with 94 m of pipes inside, three tons in total and chocolate flowing through it at one kilo per second.

The interactive multimedia exhibition leads you through seven chocolate worlds, from cocoa farming in Ghana and the history of chocolate – from Central America to Europe’s royal courts – to the Swiss chocolate pioneers of the 19th century and a tasting. Through glass windows in the pilot plant you can follow chocolate products through every production step; the "Lindt Squares" were developed exclusively for this plant. The 500 m² shop is the biggest Lindt Chocolate Shop in the world, and you can make your own chocolate in courses led by a Lindt Master Chocolatier.

Tips for your visit

  • Book museum tickets online in advance – time slots are limited, especially at weekends, in the holidays and on public holidays.
  • Allow 60–90 minutes for the museum tour with the free audio guide. Signage is in German and English.
  • The chocolate fountain, the Lindt Shop and the café can be visited without a museum ticket.
  • Bags larger than A4 are not allowed in the exhibition; free lockers are available.
  • The building is wheelchair-accessible; strollers are not allowed in the exhibition, but buggies are lent free of charge.
  • If museum tickets are sold out, a virtual tour of about 13 minutes including chocolate tasting is offered (ages 8+).
